Formed in 2022 whilst still at college, Magnolia are a supercharged fusion of both new and old; an exquisite woven tapestry of avant-garde rock with jabbing, staccato sax leading the assault on the senses. They are wild and gritty yet joyful and uplifting…bursting with method, spirit and feeling.
Thoroughly exciting and accomplished for their young age, the sextet are carving out a growing reputation as captivating live performers on stage (where they expand to an 8 piece line up), evoking a sonic battleground that provides the framework for both a personal and musical unity that is the very lifeblood of the bandDebut single ‘Television’ is a refreshing 5 minutes 39 seconds of schizophrenic imagery combined with a rare inventiveness and imagination—think Black Midi, Maruja and Opus Kink, then add a pinch of early Hawkwind, a dab of King Crimson, and you’ll find a composition that shows startling originality and progressive excitement.
They have previously opened for the likes of Pulled Apart By Horses, A Void, Arxx and Lunch, and the band will play a run of dates throughout the UK during the spring alongside the likes of Klen, Mammoth Penguins, and UFO Rodeo, before entering the studio to record new material for release later in 2024 and early 2025.
Magnolia are a sonic garden of unearthly delights; a garden where each member contributes their own individual bud of colour. Make no mistake, if the almost tangible buzz they’ve created on the Norwich scene is anything to go by, you’ll be hearing a lot more about them.

EXCLUSIVELY FOR RECORD STORE DAY 2024

The first release from Shake!Shake! Records...
Musician and producer Gemma Cullingford presents “The Komiza Project” a 4 track EP, which is the soundtrack to the film ‘Home’; her evocative 25 minute short that through the use of period cine footage documents her parents journey through the 1970’s and early 1980’s.
“The Komiza Project” comprises of compositions co-written with Liam Capper-Starr in 2012 that were never properly recorded or released… until now. The EP will be available on 12" vinyl only for Record Store Day on 20th April 2024, and on digital platforms from 27th April 2024.
Cullingford revisited these songs in 2023, and with the benefit of over 10 years hindsight and experience she has now produced them in the way in which they were intended to be when first written. She has taken a step back from the electronic dance floor fillers for which she is known in both her solo work and that of Sink Ya Teeth, and produced a melancholic collection of warm, deeply personal songs that still retain her recognisable gently sung and softly spoken vocal style.
“Liam and I wrote these songs in the early 2010’s at a time when I was feeling a little vulnerable after coming out of a relationship and moving into a little cottage on my own. We briefly formed a band and performed a few local gigs in Norwich. The songs reflected how I was feeling at the time and melancholic music poured out. Liam penned some lyrics based on his observations of my life and I think he beautifully put into words just what my music was trying to say”.
